Looking For Something Real

In recent years, many university students have started to question how much technology they really want in their lives. They spend long periods (0) …...… time in online spaces, using social media, virtual reality, and now artificial intelligence. However, (1) ……… a time when every experience seems generated by a computer, they are increasingly interested in real experiences.

Until recently, spending a few years at university (2) ……… exciting because it offered opportunities to meet others face to face. (3) ……… course, technology is useful, but it can also make university life feel less personal than it used to be.  More and more, youngsters prefer activities (4) ……… involve real people and places, such as travelling, volunteering or learning practical skills.

Some older technologies, such as handcrafts, are still (5) ……… use, especially among students who want a break from screens.  Besides, getting away from screens also makes (6) ……… possible to be more productive, which improves their sense of well-being.

Between 2010 (7) ……… 2020, digital technology became an even more important part of everyday life. However, today's students may want an even (8) ……… authentic experience, rather than a perfectly designed digital one. They are not rejecting technology completely; they simply want to make sure that it does not replace real life.
